David and Dolly are two students in our Cultivate College Internships this year. When I connected with David recently, he asked “What is next?” after the internship is complete. David feels a call to ministry, he is growing in faith and leadership, and in his own words, “I don’t want to go back to working at a grocery store.”
Dolly stepped into leadership and hit the ground running. Her supervisor emailed me asking if she could stay on their church’s staff after her internship was over because she is “leading both our young adult Underground Church, junior and senior high youth groups, singing in the praise team, as well as filling other roles in the church as needed.”
As youth and young adults lead in their churches, transformation happens two ways. The lives of young people are filled with purpose and they grow in faith. But the church is also transformed; through internships, attendance at IGNITE Communities, learning at the Next Gen Ministry Summit and more, churches are discovering renewed passion and Holy Spirit energy.
In this season, what young people are you inviting to participate and lead in your congregation or community?
All around us I’m seeing a movement of passionate young people to lead the church. The next generation of disciples is rising to the task of leading the church. May we all look for young people and opportunities for them to lead on.
