Partners in Ministry,
I did the best thing over Christmas and New Years; I turned my phone off for 2 weeks. No email. No Facebook. No work. Just vacation.
We are in such an exciting time for Next Generation Ministries. Church youth groups are growing. IGNITE Communities, our regional youth worship nights, are started and engaging more churches. Summer Camp is planning and registrations are starting to roll in. The Next Gen Ministry Summit is around the corner. But here’s what I learned taking 2 weeks off of everything.
In busy seasons, we need time to focus on what is most important.
In your life, in your job, in your church – you’re in a busy season. There’s always something (or a lot of somethings) going on. If we’re not careful, we lose focus.
One word that is focusing our work, together, in Next Generation Ministries is discipleship. I want to suggest to you that our culture doesn’t need more events. We don’t need a fuller calendar. We don’t need the lights nd the sound and the show. What we need is a discipleship journey. A way to grow in faith, together, over time. I know this is what you want for the students in your church and community.
That’s what the mission of Next Gen is all about. At it’s core, our mission is Connect, Grow, Lead. We’re all about connecting students to God and community, so that they grow in faith and leadership and lead the church today. We’re working hard not to just add events and be busier. Our team has developed the IGNITE Discipleship Calendar so that over time, one month at a time, students can grow in faith and leadership.
God is doing amazing things among us. You are making a difference for students and leaders throughout our churches and communities. And you’re not alone, Next Gen is on the journey with you. This month, I invite you to focus your work with students around one word: discipleship. May we all grow in faith and leadership, following God to make a difference in the world.
